Old Time Religion

Conventional wisdom tells us that Rock and Roll is a young man's game. Ray Liberio does not agree, and chose to use his birthday to prove this point. On May 8th, 2015 Mr. Liberio and his compatriots in Stoogeaphilia stormed the stage at Lola's Saloon and passionately debunked this myth with an all out assault of Skronk and Awe the likes of which would put the Fear of God into the Auto Tune Generation. It's only mild hyperbole to describe the event as a religious experience. It was more than obvious to those in the congregation that The Spirit of Rock n Roll had descended and we were privy to a full blown Revival. Reverend Liberio may not look like a Street Walkin' Cheetah, but the Heart Full of Napalm still burns bright. If Stoogeaphilia was the fire and brimstone of Old Time Religion then Duell was Sunday School, deftly laying the groundwork for the next generation of believers. If you've ever spent an intoxicant fueled evening on your buddies couch, jamming Queens of the Stone Age records and thinking their sound is a bit too subtle, then you need to study the Gospel of Duell. Stretching this sacreligious allegory further are The Dangits. They're the girl you should have made it to First Base with at Church Camp. Loud, raw, a little dirty, but definitely more fun than the future soccer mom you ended up flirting with at the snack stand. The type of girl who snuck in a flask of her Dad's whiskey and laughed when you cringed after taking a pull. You may have missed your chance with her, don't make that same mistake with The Dangits. While I could stretch these allusions to their breaking point covering One Fingered Fist and William Bryan Massey III, I need to confess my sins. Instead of being the good reporter I got caught up with friends on the front patio and missed quite a bit of the openers. Though, I guess that's the point of bringing the multitudes together. Communing with friends and family to share in a life affirming experience that knows nothing of age. No one lives forever, but few things stave off the ravages of time better than a Baptism by Volume.
